This project was created to practice high-detail animal grooming, focusing on a fluffy, semi-realistic cat. I built a clean base mesh, laid out UVs, then groomed the fur in Maya XGen using main guides plus layered modifiers for length variation, clumping, noise and a few flyaway hairs. The goal was to keep the silhouette rich and natural—especially around the face, ears and neck—while still showing the cat’s expression and not covering the eyes or nose. Lookdev was done in a PBR renderer to get soft specular highlights on dark fur against a neutral background. The final result is suitable for close-up shots and serves as a portfolio piece to demonstrate control over grooming, directionality and realism in creature work.
